Iquitos:
Host city to the 2008 Heliconia Society International Conference, Iquitos is located in the heart of the Peruvian Amazon, with a population of 400,000.
It is the principal river port of the Amazon area and its outstanding characteristic is that today it is a cosmopolitan city that welcomes visitors and tourists and proudly shares its riches: Exciting natural wonders, typical foods, music, and nightlife.

| The Belen sector and market: |

Belen is a popular sector of Iquitos, famous for its wooden houses with palm thatched roofs that are built on rafts that float on the edge of the Itaya River when the water is high.
The market is a riot of color and smells, full of vendors selling exotic fruits and vegetables, foods, wild animals, meats, clothing, liquors, natural medicines, herbs, and even aphrodisiacal potions.
It is recommended to visit this area in the morning and with caution. At night it can be dangerous.

After a couple of walks through the warm streets you will notice, between the mototaxis and the trees, on every corner, evidence of the great Iquitos rubber industry, which was at its height during the end of the 18th and beginning of the 19th centuries.

| Quistococha Tourist Park: |

A park within a natural forest, Quistococha has a small zoo with unusual animals like jaguars, pumas, paiches (one of the largest freshwater fish in the world), monkeys, and turtles.
Its most attractive feature is the Quistococha lagoon with its large white sandy beach.

A library administered by CETA (Center of Amazonian Theological Studies), it has an extensive collection of books, photos, maps, newspapers, and magazines of Iquitos. |

| Pilpintuwasi Butterfly Farm: |

Pilpintuwasi, is a Quechua word meaning "butterfly house". This wonderful place, more than just a center to raise butterflies, is a paradise for the eyes and spirit. |
| The Bora Indians of San Andrés: |
 |
This native community is comprised of 180 members who prepare themselves for visiting tourists with traditional body painting and demonstrations of native ceremonial dress and customs. They also sell beautiful handmade crafts at very reasonable prices. |
| Monkey Island: |
 |
This island in the Amazon River is home to some 40 monkeys of seven different species. A local family cares for them. The monkeys roam freely and love to play and climb up on visitors. |
